Elisabeth Brassé – Creative Director
Elisabeth is a born-and-bred designer, growing up in her dad’s graphic design studio, and starting to help out with photo retouching in the days of pens and airbrushes. After a few years spent studying philosophy, travelling around Europe (from Austria, where she grew up) on a snowboard in winter and climbing rocks and mountains in summer, she started taking more and more commissions for work as a commercial artist, decorating gallery window displays, creating graffiti artworks for a chain of restaurants, and as a junior graphic designer. She finally followed her calling and came to Sydney in 1998 to study design and photography.
She has worked as a designer ever since, both freelancing and for others. From 2004 – 2008 she worked as graphic and product designer. Since 2008, she has been putting together her love of design and her love of solving technical problems in a new way, and made the transition to web design working for David Terrazas at his ing group studio in Glebe.
In 2011 she decided it was time to go out on her own again, and so she created Guru Orange together with her partner, Gideon. The idea behind the new business was to offer a service that can present the best of both worlds – great design coming from a traditional background, as well as great functionality and strategy coming from a production and communications background. Elisabeth also continues to be a traditional graphic designer, producing a series of travel books to Indian cities among other projects.
When she’s not worrying about good type for an online platform, she enjoys family life with her toddler son, travels back and forth between her Austrian roots and her Sydney life, and cooks lots of meals for friends and family.
Gideon Warhaft – Communications Director
Gideon started his professional life as an animation producer, producing the animated microseries Larry Labrat in the late 1990s.
He moved on to the non-government sector, working at the NSW Users & AIDS Association (NUAA) editing the much loved magazine User’s News – a harm reduction and drug policy magazine aimed at improving the health and lives of drug users in New South Wales and educating people about drug issues. As well as being on countless drug advisory bodies and doing a ton of media interviews on drug issues, Gideon also oversaw the development and management of NUAA’s websites and advised numerous other NGOs on their digital strategies.
In 2011 Gideon decided to start Guru Orange with his partner Elisabeth, matching his project management, strategic development and writing skills with Elisabeth’s superb design skills. Gideon also has an interest in app development, specifically in the e-health and medical device field.
When not in front of a computer, tablet or phone screen, Gideon spends time entertaining his toddler son, indulging in his passion for film, traveling to far-flung places or wasting time following current affairs.
Gideon also likes spicy food, red wine, moderately warm weather and long, meandering walks.
